Supplementary Feeding Program
PJPS currently runs a feeding program for about five hundred (500) inmate beneficiaries confined at the NBP Hospital. We are able to supplement, twice a week, the daily food ration of these poor inmate patients with a bowl of nutritious soup or rice porridge.
Medical Assistance
With a mere PhP 3.00 per day allocated for an inmate for medicine, most inmates are forced to provide for their own needs. Many of the sick inmates in the New Bilibid Prison Hospital however are considered poor and has no access to resources to buy their own medicine. We help the inmates by seeking outside assistance in behalf of NBP hospital patients and facilitate the distribution of donations, especially for the visitorless, indigent and the aged.
Paralegal Support
We support inmate initiated paralegal services within NBP by providing office supplies and assisting inmates in procuring or sending documents (e.g. obtaining birth certificate).
Livelihood Support
PJPS supports groups and/or individuals within NBP who engage in micro-enterprise by promoting their products in the free society. As their “marketing agent”, PJPS ensures that their products are priced and purchased fairly. By linking with other Jesuit institutions, partners and other non-government organizations, PJPS hopes to provide the inmates and their products an avenue for a more sustainable market and income.
While there are particular groups and/or individuals who directly benefit from our Social Enterprise Project, the whole prison community also indirectly benefit from the project. Bilibid items sold outside are marked-up by PJPS and tag it as the buyer’s contribution to the prison community. Any income generated from the marked-up items are returned to the prison community in the form of facilities improvement (e.g. water facility), training and formation programs both for inmates and Bureau of Corrections employees, and a possible micro-financing for released individuals.
Other Services
PJPS provides other services such as collection and distribution of caskets for demised inmates, distribution of various donations from outside, and in some cases, financial assistance.
